Live Sound

Here is a gallery of just some of the artists that I have provided live sound for...
Photos by David Hiney

What equipment is used?

I specialise in providing sound in small and medium sized acoustic spaces for artists in the acoustic, folk and blues genres, although have worked with artists covering many styles. My main PA provision is via the Bose L1 array - this is usually placed behind or to the side of the artist so that they hear exactly what the audience hears. I also use Bose S1 Pros for monitoring and/or additional sound reinforcement. You can find out more about the Bose Portable PA solutions on the Bose website.

Here's what some of the artists have said about my live work:

Brooks Williams
(April 2016)

“Working with Ian Cleverdon is a delight. He has mixed live sound for me at Acoustic Roots in Wigan on two occasions, once with my band and once solo acoustic. In both situations he created a room and stage mix that was both clear and “true.” He approaches his sound engineering with a musician’s ear and has a fantastically positive attitude that inspires confidence."

The Jigantics
(March 2016)

Robb Johnson
(May 2015)

“Being a five piece, with drums [in a church] can present a challenge but you did us proud. Barb who comes to many of our gigs told me the sound was excellent, top job!”
(Martin Fitzgibbon, Drums)
“The quality of the sound Ian produces is perfect, and it encourages you to sing and play with the confidence and ambition you get if you sing and play in an acoustically perfect room. His technical authority and friendly, supportive manner make working with Ian a complete pleasure.”

Mark Harrison
(April 2015)

“Ian did the sound for my Acoustic Roots @ Wigan Parish Church brilliantly, with meticulous attention to my very non-standard guitars and the acoustics of the venue, and this played a huge part in what was a very memorable gig there."

Tim Lee
(Sept 2015)

'Ian engineered the sound for my favourite gig of last year at Wigan Parish Church for 'Acoustic Roots.' From the start of the night he was friendly, experienced and you felt complete confidence in his abilities to bring the best out of both the performers and the location."

Picture
Acoustic Roots Wigan Stage Setup

The picture on the left shows a typical setup in a small acoustic space for artists, in this case 3-piece Carrivick Sisters gig at WIgan Parish Church (September 2014).

The Bose L1 sits behind the artists and projects 180-degree sound, so that the mixed sound is common to both audience and artist.

For larger venue setups, I use two Bose L1s to the left and right of the artists, which also provides artist foldback and audience front of house sound. The clarity and quality of sound is excellent, as you would expect from the Bose range of PA.
